I joined the Army in 1978 to be a pilot. I graduated from Flight School in 1980 as a Warrant Officer. I flew UH-1's, OH-58's, AH-1's, 406CS and finally the KW-0H58D. I retired in 2003 after 2 combat tours as a CW5. I taught 8th grade math at a Killeen middle school and coached football and basketball and am in my third year as a Campus Technologist at Harker Heights High School here in Central Texas
I was first Licensed as KB2WIP while serving at Ft. Drum NY. N4MUI Ron got me started! I had a huge code hurdle, but managed to work through it during a tour in Bosnia. Lets just say I was a captive audience to the tapes. After returning to the U.S. I took and passed my General at 12 words and within 2 years was at 20 Plus and an Extra.
I still dabble with CW and am very proud of that accomplishment. Personally, I think that new "HAMS" these days are missing out on a huge part of our history. But I guess if they want to learn it, they still can.
My other Hobby is RC airplanes and helicopters .
